Battle of Stamford Bridge - Prelude
1066 Project
The 1066 Project is where I incorporate my research about this particular subject, not only about the year itself but everything from the c1000s, up to and beyond the Norman Invasion of England. Venturing from palisaded burghs to sprawling rural estates, we fight battles in the sprawling countryside. The project is a space where the history behind the tales of kings, queens, warriors, and those who pray, is explored through the medium of social media.
1066 itself was a significant year in English history. The events of that year were to see a decisive and eternal change in the landscape, the ruling class, and the administration of land. Though William the Conqueror's new England was to pour oppression and misery on many of the English, by the late eleventh/twelfth century, the country was evolving into a more cohesive people who thought of themselves as English. It was also the start of bringing England into line with the low countries, pulling away from the Scandinavian influences that had shaped the kingdom throughout the centuries along with the Anglo-Saxons.
Here at the project we aim to not only explore available research, but also that of others, so from time to time, we will be gifted with the presence of some excellent historians and authors. Interviews, reviews, and podcasts. Though the focus of this work is the 1066 Project, we may from time venture into other worlds. After all, many threads make up the past.
