Whats New: Website and new books!

Welcome to my new website, Threads to the Past.

Over the last two years I have been so busy working on new projects.

As you can see I have a new website which I am so very proud of, built for me by the amazing guys at Branding Box. Josh and Richard were so cool to work with and it was really fun to be the first historical-fiction author that they had ever designed for. I can be very pernickety about what I want, but nothing was too much for them, and they really produced some lovely pages for me.

Work in Progress, Book 3 in the Sons of the Wolf Series
The cover for the current WIP

In 2022, I submitted two proposals to the very well respected Pen & Sword Books which were both accepted. This meant that Wolf’s Bane, the third book in the Sons of the Wolf series, an eleventh century Anglo-Saxon saga, had to be put on the backburner whilst I got on with some non-fiction, Searching for Harold Godwinson, The Last Anglo-Saxon King, England’s Golden Warrior. It had not been my intention to do put aside Wolf’s Bane, which I know has been long awaited by many, however I’d had no idea how big a job undertaking ‘Harold’ was going to be. There was much more research to be done, and many rabbit holes were fallen into. I wanted to make sure I covered as much of his life as I could. But although it was a huge piece of work, I can with hand on heart, honestly say, it was so enjoyable. It reaffirmed by previous belief, that learning about history is indeed absorbing and thrilling.

Below is an image of the cover for the Harold book. I think it looks stunning! It is due for release in January 2025.

Harold Godwinson, Pen and Sword, Anglo-Saxon, 1066 Battle of Hastings
Pen and Sword jacket for new book about Harold Godwinson

Now that Harold has been sent off to the lovely staff at Pen & Sword, and I await for the next round of editing, I will be getting back to poor old Wulfhere, Tovi, and Winflaed who have been badly neglected. Hopefully Wolf’s Bane will be ready later this year for publishing. Then of course there is the other book for Pen & Sword, Edmund Ironside, King of England, 1016. Edmund is a much underrated king, who only reigned for a short while. His story has only ever been told in the context of King Cnut and Aethelred the Unready. I'm honoured to be able to tell his story from his point of view.

Another new feature I am working on is my portrayal of Lady Gytha, wife of Godwin and the mother of Harold Godwinson, as part of the #AfterHastings project. You'll find my posts about this great lady on my author's page and on my Twitter and on Instagram.

Please don't forget to look out for posts relating to the #1066Project.

See you soon!
